Banned and Restricted update 2015

Bild
People are really passionate about these things :) I think that we have better data this time than any of the years before. We've had a couple of 40+ player tournaments along with a bunch of smaller ones in Sweden. We've also had a lot of tournaments outside of Scandinavia, some of them with different B&R-lists than the one recommended here, and we've gotten good info from players in other communities. There are a couple of things important to consider regarding B&R updates. One is that everyone won't agree with everything. It's a nostalgic format, and as such players are passionate about being able to play their favorite decks to the greatest extent. There are players arguing for restrictions of cards like Moat, City in a Bottle, Lightning Bolt, Mishra's Factory, Transmute Artifact and Underworld Dreams, which of course would lead to a lot of disappointment in others. This can also been seen when discussing unrestrictions. A card like Fork might be ...

Banned and Restricted update 2014

Each year after n00bcon, a group of organizers and players take a look at the B/R-list to see if something should to be changed. Below are a few of the cards we discussed, and an actual update to our list :) Some of the cards which sparks debates Library of Alexandria and Mind Twist I'm grouping these two together. If you're playing a control deck and your opponent starts with Library, you are very unlikely to win. If you're playing aggro or midrange, and your opponent starts with Mind Twist, you are very unlikely to win. Of course, an aggro deck will also have big problems with the Library, but can sometimes race it; and a control deck will have a real problem if Mind Twisted, but they can occasionally claw back the card loss. The arguments against the "unfairness" of the two cards are very similar in the end, but different types of players tend to focus on different cards. Whether any of these cards (or both) should be banned is a discussion that was ve...

Banned and Restricted update 2013

After n00bcon each year, a group of players and organizers take a hard look on the B&R list and see if we need to change it. Updates are based on what we hear from players, the last year's results and previous year's discussions. Many cards were discussed, here are five of them. Mind Twist: Mind Twist is insanely good, feels unfair, and have a history of being banned in Vintage. This year again we talked about it's impact on the format. Even though it can be a backbreaking card to face, we think that we should never ban non-ante cards from tournaments. Mind Twist is still restricted, and it seems highly unlikely that it will ever be banned. Power Artifact: Aside from some casual builds, Power Artifact haven't made much noise as a one-off. In the end it was however clear that it is far to easy to go infinite with the card if it's allowed as 4-off. It would be much less of an offender if it wasn't a blue card (as blue is both the best color and have access...

Ban & Restriction update 120601

Bild
At the end of the 2011/2012 season the B&R list was revisited, and some changes were made. From 120601 the following updates are in effect: Mirror Universe is Restricted Shahrazad is Restricted  Fastbond is Legal (Since most of the blogs readers are Swedish, I don't bother to translate the discussions of the individual cards below.) Ban and Restriction Announcement

Bild
Effective from 1st of February 2012. Chaos Orb is Unbanned Chaos Orb is Restricted This is the errata we will play with (to avoid people spreading out their cards way to much): Chaos Orb Artifact 1 Tap: Choose a permanent on the battlefield. If Chaos Orb is on the battlefield, flip Chaos Orb onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot. If Chaos Orb turns over completely at least once during the flip, and touches the chosen permanent, destroy that permanent. Then destroy Chaos Orb. Edit: Falling Star are obviously unbanned as well. With that card we play with the original wording, but might put an errata on it if people start to spread out there creatures more then needed.
